Education and Training
College Scholarships, Vocational Training, Tuition Assistance (Preschool-12th grade)
The Pechanga Education program started in the summer of 1998, providing scholarships for tribal members attending college. That program has now expanded to include educational opportunities for tribal members of all ages.
Our education program offers college and vocational scholarships for students attending an accredited institution for higher learning. This year, the tribe has 64 members receiving funding for higher education. Twenty-three of these tribal members are working towards an associate degree at a junior college. Additionally, 28 members are working at the university level towards their bachelor's degree. The remaining nine are acquiring vocational training at various institutions. All of these students have made a serious commitment with the tribe to make the most of the tribe's investment.
This program has truly helped our members earn college degrees and even look toward graduate work. We currently have four students doing graduate work towards advanced degrees in business management, school counseling, and education. The tribe's strength and power will be enhanced with knowledge in these different areas.
The General Membership has decided that in order to help tribal members gain admission to college, we must help them early in their education. Funding is available to the youth for tuition assistance in preschools, private schools, tutoring, test preparation courses, and many other learning opportunities. For the 2009-2010 school year the tribe has assisted in sending over 100 children to private schools.
From our tribal elders to our future leaders, Pechanga places great value on our people.
